Enjoy All Yreka California & Siskiyou County Have To Offer

Siskiyou County is rich in both history and natural beauty. Yreka is seat of Siskiyou County, it is the largest full service community along I-5. Our community enjoys the beauty of all four seasons, a full range of retail businesses and a variety of nearby recreational activities.

Yreka was born in March of 1851, when a mule train packer named Abraham Thompson discovered gold on the flats near a ravine called Black Gulch. Within a month, 2,000 miners had arrived to try their luck at striking it rich, extending the California Gold Rush up into the northern part of the state beyond the Sierra Nevada.

Yreka's average temperature in the summertime is 71.5 degrees Fahrenheit, and in the winter the average temperature is 33.6 degrees. The annual rainfall average is 17 inches, and the annual snowfall averages 20 inches.

Fairchild Medical Center serves the area's health care needs. More than 6 public schools and 3 private schools offer educational options to local students. Higher education is provided most closely by Southern Oregon University, just 30 miles away. Alternatives within an hour's drive of town include Rogue Community College and Shasta College.

The Yreka Western Railroad allows visitors to ride a vintage train pulled by a steam engine to the "Old West" town of Montague, where they can stop to eat at local restaurants, explore the Railroad Museum or a visit a gift shop before heading back aboard for the return trek.

Outdoor sportsmen will find plenty of opportunities to enjoy golf, tennis, hiking, camping, hunting, snowmobiling and even snow skiing at 2 nearby ski slopes. We also have bowling lanes and racquetball courts for those who prefer to compete indoors. The waters of Shasta River provide their own unique attraction. Whitewater rafting is popular here, and you can even water-ski along the calmer stretches. Anglers can find some select spots to try reeling in some salmon or steelhead.
